How to reach Thasos?
Thasos has no airport. You may take a ferry from Kavala to Prinos. The journey takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Another option is a ferry from Keramoti (40km from Kavala) to Limenas. It travels across in about 40 minutes. This choice is cheaper and the departures of the ferry are more frequent. Kavala - Prinos fare: Adults 5€, Children 2.50€, smaller car 19€, bigger car 24€. Keramoti – Limenas fare: Adults 3.50€, Children 1.50€, small car 16€, bigger car 20€.
Limenas is the main, largest town and port of Thasos, also known as the Thasos town. The center of the city has a lot of narrow streets, full of taverns, restaurants, cafes, shops, souvenir shops and boutiques. There are several archaeological sites here, an ancient amphitheater, necropolis, ruins of the temple of Dionysus, the Zeus Gate and the Archaeological Museum. In addition to the old city beach Limanaki, there are also several beaches that are organized for tourists: Makriamos, Tarsanas, Nisteri, Glyfada, as well as the Marble Beach Saliara.
Potos is located on the south side of the island. It is known for its lively nightlife and the sandy beach, along which there are numerous bars and taverns. Nearby are the outstanding beaches of Tripiti, Pefkari, St. Antonios and the second largest town on the island of Thasos, Limenaria. Taverns, bars, bakeries, pizzerias, souvenir shops and various shops are all available for your pass-time. Not far is the 12th century monastery of Archangel Michael. This place has a special atmosphere and energy.
Limenaria is a coastal town on the south side of the island, the second largest town on Thasos. All over the town and along the coast are restaurants, taverns, bars and souvenir shops. In the town there is a small sandy beach, and a little further is the longest beach in Thasos, 2 km long. In the immediate vicinity is the beautiful sandy beach Tripiti. Limenaria is an ideal place to relax, both for families and for young people.
Makriamos Beach is located east and two kilometers away from Limenas. The beach is sandy with shallow waters. On the beach there are bungalows, restaurants, a children's entertainment park, a beach volleyball court and water sports. The ticket for this beach is 3€ for adults and 1.50€ for children.
Golden Beach (Chrysi Ammoudia)
Golden Beach is located west and 12km away from Limenas. It is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches on Thasos. The beach is long with fine golden sand, the sea is crystal clear with shallow waters. There are bars and restaurants on the beach. Umbrellas and deck chairs are provided free of charge if you order a drink or a coffee.
Paradise Beach is located 24 km from Limenas. The sand is fine and clean, the sea is clear and the waters are shallow. Due to winds, there are frequently waves on this beach. There are also bars and restaurants here.
Beach Aliki is located south and 30km away from Limenas. The beach is small, with white sand and clear water surrounded by olive groves and pine forests. Taverns and bars are also located on the beach. There are ruins and archaeological sites nearby.
This beach is located west of Limenaria, 2.5km away. The beach is made of sandy pebble with pebbles in the sea. Umbrellas and deck chairs can be rented on the beach. Beach Tripiti is ideal for those who do not like crowds.
Metalia belongs to Limenaria. This beach is similar to the beach of Tripiti, the shore is pebbly. The old mines are nearby. Beach Metalia is famous for its peace and quiet, surrounded by hills and greenery, far from populated places and traffic. It is a destination loved by divers. On this beach there is one bar. Beach Psili Ammos
